NEW DATES FOR THE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

Anton Dahlberg & Lovisa Karlsson (SWE) had to fight hard for the gold medal but the Swedes came through to win the 470 European Championships in Çeşme, Turkey. Jordi Xammar & Nora Brugman (ESP) had their opportunities to seize gold during a tense medal race in 16 to 18 knot southerly breeze, but in the end they couldn’t quite get past the Swedes and had to settle for silver. Giacomo Ferrari & Bianca Caruso (ITA) bounced back from a disastrous start to climb up to fourth in the medal race and take the bronze medal.

Anton Dahlberg & Lovisa Karlsson (SWE) delivered consistency yet again in Saturday’s two gold fleet races on day five of the 470 European Championships in Çeşme, Turkey. The Swedes will go into Sunday afternoon’s medal race knowing they can’t do worse than silver. The only team who can take gold away from them are their Spanish rivals,

Anton Dahlberg & Lovisa Karlsson (SWE) ran away with the fourth day of competition at the 470 European Championships in Çeşme, Turkey. Somehow the Swedes made sense of the trickiest conditions yet seen on Ilica Bay, with a new southerly direction creating shifty offshore breezes that swing through 30 degrees or more. No one came close to emulating the 2,1 scoreline which now puts SWE 349 in the lead. As Karlsson said: “You had to be on top of your compass numbers today, knowing the limits of the shifts, and keep your eyes out for the next bit of pressure.”

The Spanish and Japanese teams looked right at home in the softer breeze that ruled the third day of the 470 European Championships in Çeşme, Turkey. With the 5 to 9 knot breeze wafting the gold and silver fleets along at a much gentler pace than the previous breezy days, a different set of skills came into play on Thursday.

The wind was whistling through the rigging for the second day of the 470 European Championships in the holiday resort of Çeşme on the east coast of Turkey. With a similar wind strength and direction to day one, the fleet knew that the left-hand side of the course would be the place to be. That put good starting at a premium. 

Day one of the 470 European Championships launched with a bang. The first day of qualifying was a big test as the strong northerly wind got stronger throughout the day.

With old teams from Tokyo 2020 forced to form new alliances in the new era of 470 Mixed competition, the men’s 470 Olympic bronze medallists from Spain - Xammar & Rodriguez - were competing on opposite sides of qualifying. 

Northerly winds of 16-18 knots delivered the perfect preview to competition on the practice day of the 470 European Championship in Çeşme, Turkey. Having convincingly won the Warm-Up Race regatta a couple of days earlier, Anton Dahlberg & Lovisa Karlsson (SWE) put on some older sails for today’s breezy and wavy outing.

The Warm-Up Races ended in the windy seas of Çeşme. As a result of the races in which 60 sailors fought fiercely, the Swedish team became the winner.

2022 470 Euros Warm-Up Regatta completed the second-day races with solid winds, and the top three teams retained their place.

The fleet of the 2022 470 European Championship started today their "battle" for the top positions with a test event, taking place on the same waters.

Day 5 of the 470 European Championship in Vilamoura was dominated by the French teams in Women’s and Men’s fleets.

D Flag went up at 13:00 for the 3 fleets. Great sailing conditions in Vilamoura, with Races 8 and 9 sailed under 12/13Knots of wind.

A beautiful sunny day in Vilamoura delivered light breeze in the afternoon.
The 81 teams sailed 2 races with a southerly 7-9 kt breeze.

At the top of the Men’s fleet scoreboard is the Spanish crew Jordi Xammar and Nicolas Rodriguez after a 10th, 2nd and 4th in the three races of the day.

81 470’s from 25 countries will be competing from 30 April to 7 May in the men's, women's and the new mixed fleets for the respective European Champion titles in Vilamoura, Portugal.

As you know, this past week has seen a flurry of decisions taken by the IOC, Tokyo2020, and World Sailing - all of which have dramatically changed the landscape of our sport moving forward. While there are still many challenging questions, please rest assured that the 470 Class Management Committee is working tirelessly to get you reliable answers as quickly as possible. These are trying times, but also an opportunity to showcase the strength and adaptability of the International 470 Class.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and the latest situation developments, and following instructions of the Spanish and Balearic Government, as well as the recommendations from WS, the 470 Class, together with Club Nautic Arenal, are obliged to postpone the 470 Worlds which were scheduled to take place in el Arenal, from the 13th to the 21st of March.

Intense activity already at the Trofeo Princesa Sofía Iberostar, to be held in the bay of Palma from 25th March to 4th April,  especially at the venues of Club Nàutic S’Arenal and Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa. International sailing teams continue to arrive every day and there are already several hundreds of sailors training in waters of Mallorca to prepare for this regatta, considered as one of the best in the International Olympic calendar.

The FIRST EVER 470 CLASS MIXED WORLD CHAMPION TITLES will be awarded this year at the 470 World Championship in Palma de Mallorca, Spain and the Junior World Championship in Gdynia, Poland.

Two medal races, sailed in perfect Mediterranean conditions, wrapped up the 470 Europeans, organised by local Yacht Club Sanremo and Marina degli Aregai, in co-operation with the national and international 470 class.

The 470 Europeans are just a few days away. From 6 to 14 May the race area just off Marina degli Aregai,in Santo Stefano al Mare on Italy’s Ligurian Riviera, will gather the very best of the world’s 470 sailors.

International 470 Class Association is pleased to announce the new dates of 2019 470 Open European Championship which will take place between May 6th – 14th.  Championship dates were pushed forward 4 days to allow teams to participate in Hyères Regatta.

Medal Race day at the 2018 470 Open European Championships in Bourgas, Bulgaria got underway in a breeze of 10 knots. The apparent pre-race calm in the boat park switched to high energy full-on physical racing for the 25 minute windward-leeward races.

Another sensational day of perfect weather conditions off Bourgas, Bulgaria completed the 11-race series and decided the top ten 470 Women and 470 Men teams advancing to Thursday’s podium deciding medal race.

470 teams from twenty-five nations again stepped up to the stamina test of three back-to-back races on day 4, Tuesday 22 May, at the 2018 470 European Championships in Bourgas, Bulgaria.

Light wind meant no medal race was possible in either of the 470 Women or 470 Men fleets today, and the overall standings give both Afrodite Zegers/Anneloes van Veen (NED) and Carl-Fredrik Fock/Marcus Dackhammar (SWE) their first ever European Championship titles.

Patience was needed on the penultimate day of racing here at the 470 Europeans in Monaco, as the wind kept away, with 0 knots recorded at one point on the race course.

All change on race day 4 at the 470 Europeans in Monaco as big breeze and waves hit the race track and upped the pace, in complete contrast to conditions over the first three days.

Day 3 of racing at the 2017 470 European Championship got underway soon after 1330 hours, with two races scheduled for each of the 470 Men and Women fleets.

Jo Aleh/Polly Powrie (NZL) secured the 470 Women Open European Championship yesterday. Today Stuart McNay/David Hughes (USA) wrapped up the 470 Men Open title.

The 2012 Olympic gold medallists Jo Aleh/Polly Powrie (NZL) knocked out two wins, a feat repeated by 2012 Olympic gold medallist Mat Belcher and crew Will Ryan in the 470 men fleet.
