A BIG BATTLE FOR BRONZE (AND MAYBE SILVER TOO)

29 Oct 2022

Luise Wanser & Philipp Autenrieth (GER) only have to sail around the race track in today’s medal race to seal the 470 World Championship in Sdot Yam, Israel. The Germans have already won with a race to spare.

Light winds of 8 to 10 knots are expected.

Camille Lecointre & Jérémie Mion (FRA) have a bit of a comfort zone with a 6-point gap back to the younger French team in third, Matisse Pacaud & Lucie de Gennes.

Pacaud & de Gennes are on 79 points, with fourth-placed Jordi Xammar & Nora Brugman (ESP) on 80, and fifth-placed Simon Diesch & Anna Markfort (GER) on 81. With the double points system in a medal race, this means these three teams go to the final in a direct who-beats-who scenario.

There are others who could nip in to steal a medal from the more likely contenders. Marco Gradoni & Alessandra Dubbini (ITA) are in sixth overall on 87 points, and all 10 teams have mathematical (if in some cases high unlikely) chance of reaching the podium.

The medal race is scheduled to start at 1330 hours local time. For live tracking and live broadcast of the racing, go here: https://www.sport5.co.il/articles.aspx?FolderID=6045&docID=418043
