DAY 2 MORNING UPDATE: RAIN AND THUNDER AS FLEET WAITS FOR WIND TO SETTLE
Today is the end of qualifying at the 470 World Championship in Sdot Yam, Israel. Provided the weather co-operates, that is. Last night the start time for the racing was put back to 1400 hours local time to wait for a weather system to sort itself out and allow the north-westerly breeze to settle down for two good, solid races later this afternoon.
At the moment the fleet is hoping to get afloat on time, although the wind still looks all over the place.
From what we saw on day one, no one is likely to run away with this championship. It looks set to be a high-scoring regatta that will reward patience and consistency over extremism or risk-taking.
Most consistent so far have been Keiju Okada and Miho Yoshioka (JPN) with scores of 1,7,5. With the discard already in place, Luise Wanser & Philipp Autenrieth (GER) are the overall leaders counting a 2nd and a 1st place, and hoping to discard their 21st from the opening race.
