470 World Championships

WHOSE TURN WILL IT BE TODAY?

27 Oct 2022

We’re into day four of the 470 World Championship in Sdot Yam, Israel, and two more gold fleet races on the schedule.

ALL EVENT INFORMATION

Two days ago it was the Germans who dominated the last day of qualifying, two German crew winning thee of the four races. Yesterday it was two different British teams that won each of the opening gold fleet races.

Biggest climbers were the French, however. Camille Lecointre & Jérémie Mion (FRA) have scored 19, 9, 7, 4, 3, 2, 2.

Do you see a pattern there? If the only way is up for FRA1, then is today the day we say this new team (with a couple of old and experienced heads, it has to be said) take a race win?

It doesn’t quite feel like Jordi Xammar & Nora Brugman (ESP) have been quite firing on all cylinders yet. But if they’re third overall, imagine what the Spanish could do if they can put some good first upwind legs together, rather than doing it the hard way and playing catch-up.

Plenty of others that we could highlight, but quietly going about their business are the young guns from France, the 21-year-old Junior World Champions Matisse Pacaud & Lucie de Gennes (FRA) sailing their 470 called ‘Hyperloop’. Because Hyperloop is about the fastest thing on the planet, so why not call your boat that! They’re lying 6th overall and the points in the top 10 are so tight that this still is anyone’s game, including theirs.

First start time is set for 1400 hours. For live tracking and live broadcast of the racing, go here: https://www.sport5.co.il/articles.aspx?FolderID=6045&docID=418043
