30 Nov 2023The 470 family mourns the loss of Jean-Claude Cornu, son of the 470's Designer André Cornu. Jean-Claude, a top sailor -505 World Champion in 1961 and FD Olympian in 1960- was instrumental in the success of the promotion campaign of the 470 Class.
He was sailing successfully with Jean Morin and showcasing the 470 in France and other countries for many years, until the boat was recognized as an international Class by IYRU.
In the early 2000s Jean-Claude Cornu initiated the “Andre Cornu Grant” together with the Int. Class Association: this is a financial support program dedicated to young champions, and the Cornu family has been supporting this initiative ever since.
The Management Committee of the International 470 Class Association expresses its deepest condolences to his family.
